JPeG Paper

JPeG Paper

This program will take a JPeG file and make it your current wallpaper.

Usage:
jpegpaper JPGFILE

This program requires paper.exe and djpeg.exe which can be found in the zip files paper_21.zip and libjpeg.zip, both of which can be found below.

This Batch file attempts to determine if you are running an NT platform such as Windows NT/2000/XP, and if so stores your converted wallpaper in your profile, otherwise it stores it in your windows directory.

This program allows you to set a JPeG as a wallpaper without turning Active Desktop on. Paper was written by me, and it's home page is http://mcsuper5.freeshell.org/paper/. Libjpeg was initially from the Independent JPEG Group at http://www.ijg.org/ , but I couldn't find a precompiled download, so the files are off my own system. Install the exe's and libjpeg.dll in your path, or modify the script.

I was playing around with MS Windows 3.1 in VirtualBox and had to troubleshoot why jpegpaper wasn't working correctly. I had renamed it to jpg2wall.bat to conform with the 8.3 filenaming convention. I found a 16 Bit DOS version of IJG's JPeG Tools on a simtelnet archive: ftp://ftp.sunet.se/mirror/archive/ftp.sunet.se/pub/simtelnet/msdos/graphics . Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the programs to chain in Windows 3.1. You can still manually select paper.bmp.

The easiest way to use the programs is to select the file in "File Manager", go to File->Run, and insert jpg2wall at the beginning of the line. Make sure it is in your path first.
